I have a Loxone home automation system, which controls our lighting, & heating. The Loxone can also control other devices via IP, and also respond to IP.
I have various pre-set modes, such as "Movie" which dims the lights and switches the TV, or "Party" which changes the lights and starts the music system.
If a new version of DreamScreen also responded to IP control over WiFi, my home automation could also switch it to the relevant mode (such as Music for "Party").
We also have RGB LED strip hidden in a shadow-gap around the top of the walls to produce a glow at the top of the walls. If the DreamScreen could also output over IP an average of the LED's on the top of the TV, our shadow-gap LED light could also mirror that, to extend the DreamScreen effect beyond the LED's mounted on the TV.
I hope there is some possibility of adding IP control in the new 4K version.

Robbie, We aim to have WiFi control in our newest version of DreamScreen and also hope to work on integrations such as the one your describe. Perfect! You guys are on the ball!
Will this be in the new 4K version when it comes? (And do you know when the 4K version will launch?)

The plan is to have the new 4K version on WiFi as well. I cannot comment on a release date, but I can say that more information will be available in early 2017.

We are planning on releasing an HTTP JSON api, along with the other integrations, later this year.
EDIT: For the WiFi-based DreamScreen platform only, not Bluetooth. Sorry for the confusion.

We are planning on releasing an HTTP JSON api, along with the other integrations, later this year Just to be clear... I assume this applies to the new WiFi models (HD and 4K), not to the original Bluetooth model, right? Given how unreliable the bluetooth connection is, I doubt something like this would be feasible for the original Dreamscreen... or do you have any plans/see any options to add something like this for that model as well?

That would be awesome. I control all of my media components through my home automation system and rarely use anything other than the FireTV remote. Would be nice to be able to use something besides the Dreamscreen app to cut it on and off. It's a pain to have to open my phone and use the app just to watch television.

Is there any progress on this, ie. having an HTTP JSON api or URL control implemented in current release?

DreamScreen Connect has an http server implementation although that project has been paused. We -eventually- plan to release this for DreamScreen HD's and 4K's as well. { "mode": "video", "brightness": 75 }

+1 for an easy restful API for at least power (on/off) and mode (video/music/ambient).
Personally, would use it to write a quick little handler for Samsung SmartThings.
Other ways I could get where I want to be: 1) Logitech Harmony integration 2) USB power ability to toggle between Ambient/Video (currently, USB power toggles between Off/Video).

+1 for an easy restful API as well here. I will take anything IP based. the DreamScreen 4k is one of the only things I can't control from my home automation system.
