DreamScreen's Video Mode is NOT compatible with Smart TV apps at this time.
For DreamScreen to work properly, the video signal needs to be passed through the HDMI cable connected to it. In the case of SmartTV apps, there is no cable as everything takes place within the TV itself. We are exploring different methods of possibly working around this and will release more information as we know more.

hi, I do have an LG 55EC930V Curved OLED tv ; is it possible -without any harm- to press the ledstrips on the back, because I don't see plastic on the backside? Actually, the screenpanel is very small with a sort of 'coating' layer on the backside.

Attie, DreamScreen LEDs will go on the back of the TV. With a curved TV, based on your viewpoint, you may be able to see the LEDs directly. In regards to the adhesive - we use an adhesive called 3M 300LSE that has a polyester layer in it that is designed to allow strips to be removed without any residue. We specifically selected this adhesive to reduce the impact of any residue on televisions.
You also mentioned that you dont have plastic on the backside - is it metal or glass or something else?

Hi, its a LG Oled panel also on the backside, maybe glass, I really don't know, but I am sure its not safe plastic.

It would be fantastic if it could be made to work with a Smart TV app! The app should always run in the background and have access to the image currently shown. And then be able to able to send out the needed data. I fear that's a use case smart TV platform designers never take into account... I really hope you can get a way around this!

Smart TVs do not send out video to anything other than the TV itself so as of now this is not possible with DreamScreen.

I recently purchased an Android TV box (in my case, the Nvidia Shield Android TV, which has 4K support as well as full Chromecast support, but I'm sure that for this purpose, a cheaper Android TV box would work just as well). Connected the box to my receiver, and installed all the Smart TV apps that I want to use on the box. Receiver -> Splitter -> DreamScreen + TV (my receiver only has 1 HDMI out, so I still need the splitter). For now, I needed to disable the 4K output, because DreamScreen can't handle that...
Works like a charm. YouTube, Netflix, Plex, etc ... they all now work with my DreamScreen. Sure, it's an extra investment, but I don't regret it at all!

So this cannot be used with tv's internal receiver, which is the used source about 80% of the time in my case? I dont think i need this until i get and hdmi out on my tv and recycle it back through this...

Juha,
I do not think TVs will provide an HDMI-Out anytime in the near future. I think a better option would be to get an inexpensive external streaming device, such as a ChromeCast.

Just to confirm this – as of now, there's no way, no workaround to use DreamScreen (or any other 3rd party ambilight) with native Samsung TV apps, such as 4K Netflix, 4K YouTube and so on?

Correct, Dreamscreen needs its input signal on HDMI, and there is no way to get TVs to send the signal of the apps running natively on the TV itself (over HDMI) to the DreamScreen. So the only way to do this, is by running these apps on an external device, such as an AndroidTV box, a Chromecast, or similar device. Then the HDMI signal can go from these devices, through the DreamScreen, to your TV.

I dont think i need this until i get and hdmi out on my tv and recycle it back through this... that how all of the dynamic LED lighting solutions work these days except of course for the Philips TV with builtin Ambilight - but since their TV business was sold was sold to TPV they arent getting good reviews any longer I dont think there will be any TV's in the future that provide an out signal for internal tuner and apps - very old TV's had an annalog out but that is gone. plus a good part of the market uses an external cable box or sat receiver and for the TV apps something like a FireTV or Chomecast or Android box. There is one other "startup" on the market that is developing a system with an optional camera - but it isnt shipping yet so its not clear how well it works

You could develop an app for the smart TV platforms that watches for screen output and sends it to the devices over WiFi.
