Hello,
Before making the purchase decision , as I read on other forums the DreamScreen TV has an issue in detecting video content which is letter boxed , whether true letter boxed or just black/semi black bars forming the envelope around the video content. Due to this lack of detection the colors are not displayed correctly or maybe not displayed at all.
Dreamscreen mentioned to fix this behaviour via firmware update.
I need to know whether it has been fixed now and users have seen it working . I have read some other alternate products have figured the way to overcome the limitation.
Thanks for your sharing your experience .

There is no fix for the 'old' DreamScreen model (the bluetooth model)... it turned out that the bluetooth connection was just too unreliable to make that firmware update possible.
But the new WiFi models (DreamScreen HD and DreamScreen 4K) have improved functionality in this field, and in the phone app there is a "Widescreen detection" option that you can modify to influence this behavior (it has 3 possible settings: Auto, On and Off).
To quote the DreamScreen team on this feature:
In my own experience (I always have it on 'Auto') this works quite well for most situations... only if the source signal already includes the black bars, and in that signal the bars aren't completely black (like a recorded video with greyish bars as part of the recording), that can confuse the DreamScreen detection. In that particular case, it will not work so well. But most of the time, it works great for me.

With regards to the DreamScreen HD and 4K (WiFi) models: Letterboxing detection (black bars on top and bottom) is indeed supported by DreamScreen. There is a setting to make Letterboxing detect automatic, forced on, or off. The automatic detection takes ~6s and works quite well. Sample youtube video

Well i have got the HD 1080 model with latest firmware, however I can see that the black bar detection is not working very well. I am streaming content via HTPC running Kodi and I have to manually select this option to on to make it work very sporadically.

if you have the new Wifi model then you are posting in the wrong forum section - BLE == Bluetooth == old model
