Thank you brad and nachobizniz for your input. I appreciate it. I have a feeling I'll probably pull the trigger on the DS soon and just test it for myself. While comments and experiences regarding the DS4K are interesting and insightful, they're not really helpful, since, as mentioned!, I'm not interested in 4K, HDR, .... and are thus slightly distracting from the actual question/concerns I also have the DS HD version, not the 4K. I think you will enjoy it. And even if you decide to play with 4K in the future you will have options. Enjoy!

Also note the beta version fixing the washed out colors when using HDR has been released. Should be released to everyone soon. I've tested it with my PS4 Pro and a Xbox one S.

wbronze - any chance you might have tried out the new firmware (beta as per last week, released today via iOS appstore)? Somehow it torpedoed my setup with the Dreamscreen HD / HDFury Linker combination as all HDR content is basically strong-purple colour. In a similar post, I have posted the following: "I could imagine what the issue might be with the new firmware and the HDR whitewash fix as I am suffering from purple colours in HDR mode (setup similar to above). I 'only' have the Dreamscreen HD, but could it be that the new update is not compatible with my HDFury Linker downscaling a 4k HDR signal towards the Dreamscreen HD? I might have read somewhere that all the HDR buttons ('HDR mapping' or similar, if I recall correctly) are only available in the 4k version? Might explain my incompatibility issues with the new firmware."

I have not updated the firmware. I'm currently still using a DresmScreen HD with a Vertex to downscale 4K to HD. I'm unsure if they're planning to release an HDR update for the HD models as well.
It turns out there's a new Ambient Light Controller hitting the market. My efforts with DreamScreen are on hold at the moment. I'm basically just accepting the whitewashing with my setup for the time being. I'd rather have that than the purple from the update.
I don't own a linker, can you remind me what it does?
Purple showing up in many other devices is indicative of an HDCP handshake or heartbeat error.

Thanks - any chance you could PM me what new ambilight system you are referring to?
The HDFURY Linker is basically the previous version of the Vertex and a bit less fancy, however, does the job well when it comes to simply downscaling 4k signals. I believe the HDR Tone mapping button and function that has been incorporated into the DS4k model needs to be incorporated into the HD model as well. I agree with your findings on the purple screen as this is consistent with my findings -but this one is fairly different - "light" colour reproduction is fine, but once darker colors show up, the lights turn completely purple in that area of the screen. Hence this is not a full purple LED handshake issue but more of a dynamic problem with colour it seems. Might need to exchange the HD for the 4k model to check if that might solve it?

I was gonna pull the trigger, but have developed new doubts. I'm just not sure the dreamscreen will work for my setup. As you can see in the picture, the TV is about 2 feet off the wall and next to a brown frame/mold. Unfortunately, I cannot change this due to the layout of our living room and position of our couch etc. Any thoughts if it would still work?
