Hi there,
I'm new to DreamScreen (DS) but was previously a Lightberry users until upgrading to 4K resolution.
So I'm looking at purchasing the 4k DIY kit; I have seen that the DS can control both WS2812 or SK6812 RGB Led strips.
I'm a resident in the UK so the 4k kit is available however, the flex kit is not - hence why I'm looking at the DIY kit. I want the maximum amount of LED resolution - the Xtreme kit looks like it will have a total of 96 LEDs? Whereas Lightberry will be using 30 LEDs / meter (my TV is a 65" Samsung KS8000 so 5m = 150 LEDs) Ideally I'd want at least the same amount or more LEDs with my DS 4k DIY kit.
So my question is:
How many LEDs can the DS 4K handle? What power implications (external power supplies) would be needed if any? I appreciate that the DIY setup is included in the online manuals but I still think this is a little lacking in terms of hardware setup.
Any advice / help will be appreciated.
Sunny

You can still use a 30 LED/m reel with the DreamScreen DIY and have the same amount that you have now. The DreamScreen DIY currently will work with WS2812B, SK6812, APA104, and WS2813 digital LED lights. We are working on detailed video instructions that will cover when an external power supply is needed and how to set that up.

Okay, that's useful thank you. After posting I noticed this thread which I hadn't read as it didn't seem from it's title, to describe my question; dreamscreen.boards.net/thread/237/brighter-ledHowever, there is a post by a ral67 saying that 60 LED/m could be used? Is this true? I am looking for the largest LED "resolution" possible. After seeing this I decided to download the Android control application - it seems that the maximum number of LED's is 250? (45x80x45x80). Using 60/m the LEDs, they should be spaced roughly 16.66mm apart; from my estimations (KS8000 dimensions are 835.8mm (H) x 1448.9mm (W)) the top / bottom strips should be 57.7mm from each side edge and 43mm from the top / bottom edge. Do you (or anyone) think that it would better to install the strips so that they are continuous (no corner spaces) with these inset measurements or just to stick them on the extremity of the display and have gaps where the corners would be? I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense it's difficult to describe in words! Just out of interest what is the total count of LEDs in an Xtreme 4K kit? I guess it is 4 LEDs/strip? so 96 total? Yes those DIY videos would be very useful, I'm not too bad with DIY electronics but not knowing the DS hardware at all I'm struggling to see how it needs to be put together. Thanks in advance, Sunny

The max right in the app is as you say 250 LEDs. Our Flex LEDs are 30 LED/meter and so they are spaced about 1.2" apart. Even at 30 LED/meter, the Flex LEDs will still give you a higher count than the Xtreme (96). The LEDs on the Classic, Mega, and Xtreme sizes are spaced about 2" apart. I personally don't think a 60 LED/meter is necessary for a large screen like that as you'll be sitting further away. I think a 60 LED/meter strip would be more useful for something like a computer monitor or other type of small screen.
We hope that the videos will do a good job of showing the setup.

the creator say the flex leds are 26leds per meter not 30

The Flex LEDs have been developed further since my last post in July and are now 24 LED/meter

The Flex LEDs have been developed further since my last post in July and are now 24 LED/meter good to know - what was the reason ? Are you still planning to fold them for the edges or are you developing edge connectors ?

I am unsure of the reason as I did not take part in that development process but I will try and find out for you.
The will be folded at the corners at a 90 degree angle. This is easy to do without breaking the connection of the strip. You can see an example in our Setup video for the DIY kit.

yes I saw the video - but only months after I had cut my 3rd part strips and got edge connectors :-) 3-pin ones werent easy to find - most are for 4pin strips
The ones I found take up some space - first LED starts at 2.5cm from the corner - with folding it would be 1.25cm So I loose the space for 1 LED per side (2 corners)
advantage is that if one LED dies I can more easily just replace one side
Also since the BT DS power supply couldnt power all of my 154 LEDs anyway I used an external PS for the LED's and wired them that each half gets its own power

Hi all and thanks in advance for your response. I am a newbie and have limited experience in with lighting. I have a 75” 4K TV and would like to set up the 4K DIY kit. I have done a quite a bit of reading but I’m still a bit unsure if what I think I know is correct.
What I think I know: 1) The 4K DIY kit will can address up to 500 LEDs but the unit can only power 250 LEDs, using two DIY cables so an addition external Power Supply will be required to power the entire 5M 60LED/M strip; 125 LEDs on port 1, 125 LEDs on port 2, and 50 from an external power source.
2) I found the following LEDs on Ebay, I think they will work. Description:Multicolor SK6812 LED strip FPC Width :10mm, better heat dissipation and longer life span LED Type:5050 SMD LED Quantity:60LEDs/M Each LED separately control Grey scale : 256/color Working Voltage: DC 5v Beam Angle:120 degree FPC Color:Black,White Available Color:Full color IP Grade:Tube IP67 Waterproof or Non-Waterproof Operating Temperature:-20~+45 degree
3) Question: Will the DS app allow 300 LEDs? In the DEMO App I can’t set the vertical to more that 45 and the horizontal to more than 80, (80+45)=125 X 2 = 250. How do I get to 300 total?
4) I have three HD/4K sources Comcast Cable, FireTV Stick, and a Blueray DVD player. All of which will work with the DS 4K hub, right?
Cheers,
Bob

please see the other posts in the forum
the max LED count is 250 adresseable LEDs for the DS with 150 per port This isnt just about power
So I am afraid you will have to use 30 LEDs/m strips for a 75" TV for like a total of 184 LEDs

Sunny99, have you managed to set your system up?
I have received my kit today (in the UK) and the plug/socket arrangement for the LED strip is different from the lightberry. What adaptor or configuration is used to overcome the different plugs?

It would help to post a picture of your lightberry led strip and connector
Didnt you get a DIY cable ?
