You could develop an app for the smart TV platforms that watches for screen output and sends it to the devices over WiFi. very theoretically yes practically I doubt that you will able to do that without support from the TV developer app that runs in the background and grabs another apps framebuffer ... I dont think the content providers would like that. plus someone would have to develop that app for each of the loads of different TV model series - who is going to pay for that ? I'm afraid the 3rd party Ambilight market is just too small for that. IF TV vendors wanted to support it they could easily provide the color info for a number of zones on the four sides of the TV image over IP without compromising copy protection kinda like simplified screen mirroring like MiraCast or Airplay But then why should they? Its not something they make money with IMHO the only viable universal solution would be a small camera that analyzes the image on the screen not much resolution needed there given that with max 250 LED's on a DS the max "resolution" is like 80x45 :-)

Pretty much everything ral67 said above. I'd like to add that a camera-based solution is not ideal as you would have to deal with different lighting, making sure the camera is never moved, and likely a lag due to the fact that the camera has to send the image over to the HDMI unit to be processed. This makes camera-based solutions inconsistent and rather impractical.

On android tv, could it work by sideloading something like allcast or Google home share screen to cast to a chromecast connected to a dreamascreen?

You could develop an app for the smart TV platforms that watches for screen output and sends it to the devices over WiFi. go ahead and try you will soon find out that apps are sandboxed and one app doesnt get access to other apps data or to the framebuffer besides you would have to develop and maintain a different app for each of the major TV vendors - not really feasible for a small company. Plus this app wont have access to the TV tuner or other inputs. This only works on Linux based Sat Receivers like Dreambox where some of the DIY Amiblight solutions started. And only if they provide root for users and apps which breaks DRM - so no major TV vendor would allow that

Smart TVs do not send out video to anything other than the TV itself so as of now this is not possible with DreamScreen. Not sure if you've fixed this yet, but... What if you're using an external receiver for sound. Couldn't you send the HDMI signal through the ARC HDMI cable that goes to the receiver? It's carrying the video signal in there. I'm ready to buy, but it would have to work with the Smart TV Apps on my LG 65UH9500.

ARC does not transmit any video information, only sound.

I would buy a dream screen right now if you guys could figure this out. I don't want to have to buy a Fire Stick or Chromecast to get what I already have in my brand new Samsung TV natively. The native app on this new TV runs circles around apps on another piece of hardware.

The only way to currently do this would be to have a camera pointed at the TV and that comes with its own collection of problems like lag and color inaccuracies.

I was pretty clear in saying, "if you guys could figure this out" meaning doing something other than what you "currently do". Whatever company gets there first will win. Or if camera companies (like iHoment) are more nimble with their fixes to lag and color inaccuracies. Smart Apps aren't going away.

Does anyone have it configured to play music through a smart tv app and have that go through the DS and to a receiver? I understand that, since it won't send video out, the DS can't work with the smart tv apps. I'd just like to be able to cast something like spotify from google home or my android phone to my surround sound. With the DS hooked up, no sound is sent to the receiver. With the DS taken out, the sound is transmitted via ARC to my receiver just fine. Thoughts?

This isn't a reply, don't see a post opttion.
I'm having an issue with the adhesive sticking to the back of a 2018 LG 65C8PUA OLED TV. Anyone know of a way to make the adhesive stay? It works great but I keep having to push the LED strips back on to the TV.

DreamScreen's Video Mode is NOT compatible with Smart TV apps at this time. For DreamScreen to work properly, the video signal needs to be passed through the HDMI cable connected to it. In the case of SmartTV apps, there is no cable as everything takes place within the TV itself. We are exploring different methods of possibly working around this and will release more information as we know more.

I just got my DreamScreen mega and it won’t show Wi-Fi hotspot been trying for hours on different devices no luck. In the manual it says it will work without the app just pressing the little button on the back, but those LED lights won’t work no matter what I do.

Hi,
Would your product work with my LG 55NANO916NA 55" TV please?
I have Sky and would it work if I run HDMI from Sky through it and back into telly?
