If your LED strips contain an extra wire for Backup Data that can also be wired into the DOUT port on the DIY cable. I believe you can also just leave it unconnected if you wish. Doh... beat me to it

Thank you both. That answered all of my questions.
Update: after about 4 hrs of tinkering around, I narrowed it down to the DreamScreen TV hub or app.
I've tried 4 different WS2813 led strips now, trying both the standard 5V 8A brick and an external 5V 40A power supply. HDMI cables are fine. I triple-checked that the app is finding each one, and it is.
However, each roll of 5M only lights about the first 2M. The lights also stay the same brightness - no fading as distance increases. Any help would be appreciated.

did you make sure that you configured the number of LEDs in the app correctly ?
the default will only use the first few - dont remember how many - but probably the smallest size they sell

Yeah, thanks, that was the first thing I checked in the app, after reading the forums. I used the FLEX/DIY setting with all 150 LED's accounted for.
Overnight, the hub finally let go. I had the HDMI's plugged in and the hub powered on, just until I got the LED lights running. While everything was off last night (except prob the hub), the hub stopped passing the HDMI signal through. Everything is currently pointing to the hub.

If your LED strips contain an extra wire for Backup Data that can also be wired into the DOUT port on the DIY cable. I believe you can also just leave it unconnected if you wish. If I'm going to circle back, at the end of the LED strip, and plugin my +5V and GND to the external PSU, should DOUT get a second connection to either/or Green (DO/DI) and Yellow (BO/BI)? To clarify, using the full 5M, I'll reconnect the +5V and GND exactly how it's specified in the DIY wiring guide.

Backup output and input should be wired together. When a single LED is defective, data is routed over the backup line automatically and only the defunctional LED won't work anymore. With Ws2812 Stripes, the whole stripe could stop working after a defunctional LED.

Yes, you can power the LEDs from the 'opposite' end of the LED strip if wished. In addition: Yes, you can tie GND-GND and 5V-5V for LED1 and LED2. (Just remember to NOT tie 5V between the different power supplies, as shown in the DIY document.)Can this damage the Dreamscreeen device if both 5V and ground connections of two different power supplies would be tied together? Is it somehow possible to have the Dreamscreen power supply and an external power supply working in parallel for long strips with many LEDs in a safe way (to add the wattage of both PSUs)?

pistensau I wouldn't try it. Safest to keep the PSU's separated
