hi guys, just a quick one:
i switches my TV Setup to a Smart TV. Now i Got a SONY STR DN850 as Homesound System - and a 65 KD 8505 BRAVIA TV. So far so good - i know the DreamScreen does not support the Apps on the TV so if i watch something that is not going through my Audiosystem.
Now the tricky part: is it possible that the Splitter that is supplied with the original DreamScreen Shipment does not Support the ARC technology (Audio Return Channel)??
i connected the devices according to Sony's instructions - but i just cant get any sound out of the TV-APPS (eg. netflex) (except for if i change the settings so sound comes out of the TV itself).
thanks

The current DreamScreen Splitter does not support ARC or CEC.

The current DreamScreen Splitter does not support ARC or CEC. The splitter does indeed not support ARC, but one user discovered that it DOES support CEC... but only on one of the inputs!

Are there actually any splitters out there that DO support ARC?

Splitters - none that I know of. There are HDMI switches/matrixes that offer this functionality (such as this one), but then we're definitely talking about a different price range...

Maybe there is just too little demand for this kind of functionality in splitters? Nowadays, most people use their receiver to divide the HDMI inputs and outputs. Receivers with 5 HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs, including ARC support, are getting more and more common...

Freddy, I won't argue about the splitter market and yes I have a receiver that is more than capable of doing this. the problem is when my friends with an older system and a smart-tv want to watch and HEAR the tv apps they are sol and won't spend the bucks... .. I know arc wont send a pic , Actually don't reply to this because tv only returns the ARC not the pic (afaik). YOU ARE A HI-TECH COMPANY DREAMSCREEN I can't beleave you... ...don't support HDMI 1.4!

Tracey, one small note... those friends of yours are not completely sol. Even on older systems, they should always have the option to run an audio cable (either digital optical, or analog) from the smart tv back to that older receiver. Sure, it's a workaround, and it would be a lot nicer if the splitter could handle this by itself, but at least it should work.

Many HDMI splitters support ARC. Just Google "HDMI splitter with ARC".

ARC is a definite need for me. Whilst we watch TV (from a cable box) and Blu-ray thru the AV Receiver, when using the Apps on the TV (such as Netflix) we are using the ARC to get the sound from the TV back to the AV Receiver.
With our Sony TV & Denon AV Receiver, this switches fully automatically. Using a separate audio cable from the TV back to the AV Receiver as a work around would require button pressing, that confuses the rest of the family.
This stuff should all be simple.
Can the new 4K DreamScreen HDMI splitter have ARC please?

Martin,
In theory, yes. We just can't provide any sort of guarantee since we haven't tested those splitters ourselves.

I have been busy too, fortunally I have a Yamaha RX-A2050 with two HDMI outputs, I put the Splitter and its power in the box again, pushed the DS straight into the non arc output of the receiver and the tv cable arc output in the tv arc input. Bought a Google Chromecast-2 ( not that expencive) connected to a HDMI port in the receiver and installed everything on my Windows 10 laptop. Bit of a puzzle (Google is my best friend). And now I have youtube netflix etc very nice with sound working great. No hassle with my internal Smartstuff of my own tv. Very Happy that the splitter is gone and no issues with arc anymore.
