Ok, so I've also spent countless of hours on trying different HDMI cables, I even bought a new receiver (upgrading to Atmos at the same time) and the project became way more expensive than I first had expected.
But, it was all worth it when today I watch Ready player one on my Apple TV4K, with 4K 60hz HDR and Dolby Atmos together with a fully working Dreamscreen Mega setup.
This is my kit.
TV: Samsung UE78KU6505
Receiver: Onkyo TX-NR676E-S
Cables: Goobay HDMI cables from Conrad.se, not superexpensive but good enough. Longest cable 1,5 meters.
Dreamscreen: Mega, first wave of deliveries (had to wait a few months before delivery) with firmware 1.3.5.4, not experiencing any whitewash color problems. But the sidekicks are worthless, they turn on and off in sync from time to time, this is discussed in the forums and I’ve tried all the QoS and other things, but nothing helps. I’ve decided not to use them since they only threw lightning all around with no real purpose considering the size of the TV and the fact that I have a perfect white wall behind it which already does the trick good enough.
And here is the magic gem.
HD Fury Linker: with a custom EDID “Integral-Vizio Dolby Vision EDID”, with that activated and the beta TV OS 12 update I get the Dolby atmos passthrough, and 4K 60hz HDR 4:2:2 picture. It looks and sounds amazing.
For more on my HD Fury settings just ask the questions here and I’ll answer them with the settings that works for me.
I have all my consoles and streamingboxes connected to my receiver. PS4 Pro, ChromeCast Ultra, Apple TV4k. And between the receiver I have first the HD Fury, then the Dreamscreen and then the TV. Short cables all the way.
So you can get it to work, but it’s not for the ordinarie Joe and without the HD Fury I can’t even get a picture at all. And to setup the Fury Correct you’ll need some computer skills, and patience.
Worth noting is that it can take the HD fury Linker up to 40 seconds to lock the picture and sound right, so you have to have some patience, but as soon as it’s looked in there is no problem onwards. Just when you switch between sources which in all honestly at least for me doesn’t happen that often.

Thanks, Fredrik - have you updated the HD Fury linker to firmware 0.25? That really helped my unit with HDMI handshake issues, which is now nearly instant without the 40 second wait that you have described. I have a nearly identical setup compared to yours, except a Denon 2400 (can't wait for tvOS 12 final to finally allow for Dolby Atmos!) and a LG OLED.
Agree with everything you have said above.

By the way, just installed the latest firmware that came through the Appstore - my advice, stay away from it as far as possible - it completely destroyed my setup as described above. Reverting to simple Ambilight white for now...

Admin, kyle - I could imagine what the issue might be with the new firmware and the HDR whitewash fix as I am suffering from purple colours in HDR mode (setup similar to above). I 'only' have the Dreamscreen HD, but could it be that the new update is not compatible with my HDFury Linker downscaling a 4k HDR signal towards the Dreamscreen HD? I might have read somewhere that all the HDR buttons ('HDR mapping' or similar, if I recall correctly) are only available in the 4k version? Might explain my incompatibility issues with the new firmware.

drdoom2k The new 1.6.1.7 being rolled out to HD's only affects wifi, literally nothing else should have changed. However if you believe there indeed is a regression please formally open a ticket with us immediately www.dreamscreentv.com/contact/To add, HDR Tone Remapping is only applicable for DreamScreen 4K and does not exist in the HD's firmware

That would be great indeed fredrikmalm - could you post your screenshots of the GUI if possible? We can in fact share settings, will try to post mine soon to compare & optimise.

Hi, Are there any news on the missing color saturation of a Dreamscreen HD in HDR mode when downscaling the 4K HDR source to 1080p with a HDFury Linker just for the DS HD? Was somebody able to fine tune this setup and has it working without problems? I saw that there is the HDFury Vertex available as the successor of the Linker. It's also much more expensive. Is somebody using this device in combination with a Dreamscreen HD and is getting full function and colors during all possible modes, especially HDR? drdoom2k: I read that you have the Dreamscreen HD with the HDFury Linker working, but facing pale colors in HDR mode. Were you able to solve the issue with your setup in the meantime? Greatly appreciate your experiences.

Hi there, unfortunately, I simply got used to the rather muted HDR colours and am rather enjoying the fact that everything works with the HDFury linker !

drdoom2k : Could you give me some more info about your setup? I read somewhere you also have/had a Denon AVR and a LG Oled?

Sure, I have a HDFury Linker that runs between my Denon 2400x's second monitor out and the Dreamscreen HD. The Denon Monitor 1 goes straight into the LG C8. Do you have a similar setup? Happy to share my HDFury settings if that might be useful?

drdoom2k Thanks for you reply. I've got (almost) the same setup and a HDFury Vertex inbound (just to be sure and with the discount i managed to score same price as a Linker). I got: Xbox One X —— 6ft KabelDirect —— Denon AVR X2300W —— 6ft KabelDirect —— DreamScreen 4K —— 6ft KabelDirect —— LG OLED 55C8. Above only gave me troubles, no image at all, receiver getting signal with constant interruptions, so often and fast that there is no time for the LG to display any picture. Xbox One X —— 6ft KabelDirect —— DreamScreen 4K —— 6ft KabelDirect —— Denon AVR X2300W —— 6ft KabelDirect —— LG OLED 55C8. Worked but then Xbox 360/Humax TV Decoder don't enjoy DreamScreen 4K. I'm planning to one of the following:Xbox One X —— 6ft KabelDirect —— Denon AVR X2300W —— 6ft KabelDirect —— Integral2/Vertex (out-1) —— 6ft KabelDirect —— DreamScreen 4K ///// Integral2/Vertex (out-0) —— 6ft KabelDirect —— LG OLED 55C8 or Xbox One X —— 6ft KabelDirect —— Denon AVR X2300W (HDMI OUT-1) —— 6ft KabelDirect —— LG OLED 55C8 ///// Denon AVR X2300W (HDMI OUT-2) —— 6ft KabelDirect —— Integral2/Vertex (out-2) —— 6ft KabelDirect —— DreamScreen 4K Just need to check what works.

So was Atmos worth the upgrade?

@m00n,
I also have a Vertex and what seems to do the trick is to downscale the top output to 1080p and feed it to the DreamScreen.
You leave the bottom output untouched to feed the TV.
No more flickering at 24Hz or rogue flashing leds to the right of the screen.
