Hi there, I'll try to come to the point quickly. Here's my setup:
LG OLED C9
Onkyo TX-NR708 (Not 4k capable... going to replace this one soon. Running in 1080p)
PS4 Pro
VU+ Ultimo 4k
Dreamscreen 4k with WS2813 LED Stripes (44LEDs/M), in total around 200 LEDs. DIY Cable from DS to LEDs. (viewed from the front) LEDs start in the lower left, go up, right, down, left - so one time around. To prevent the voltage from dropping, the DS is supplied with 5V and the LEDs are supplied with 5V.
Routing is
PS4 Pro >>> Onkyo >>>> DS4K >>>> LG TV
Vu+ >>> Onkyo
I only use 48GBit HDMI Cables
The Video/Sound signal is flawless, regardless of what input I use. I never had a single dropout there.
What is the problem:
After x Minutes (2 to 60) of operation, the LEDs switch to the set "minimum luminosity". Usually first the Lower half of the LEDs do this (so LEDs 0 to 18 and 119 to 200). Interesting here, it is not the beginning or end of the LED stripe, it is really Upper/lower half. Shortly after that, the other half follows. The DS4K is still working at this stage, I can connect via App. I can even change the "minimum luminosity" setting and the LEDs will react. If if shortly switch to "ambient" and back to "video" they work again.
Here is all I tried so far, without noticeable effect:
* Using different HDMI Cables
* Using only one 5V power supply
* Replaced DS4K
* Replaced DIY Cable
* Used a different LED Stripe which I just put on the ground
* Played with all settings in DS4k
* Tried all possible video source settings in Onkyo and VU+
* Connected all TV components to a common ground
* Used a VU+ Duo² instead of the Ultimo 4K
* Cooled the DS4k
* Blessed the DS4k with a sacred teardrop of a mermaid, gathered at full moon
* Changed the routing and put DS4k between VU+ and Onkyo
* Only used VU+ > DS4k > TV
* Checked the voltage, 5V stable
* Only used 100 LEDs of the 200
* Used the PS4 as source
However there is something that worked:
* Disconnected the VU+ from Onkyo, plugged in my Surface instead. Played a full movie - all fine.
When I connected the VU+ again (even though it was in standby - awake but standby), the LEDs started to have problems. I again checked if there are any voltage potentials between the components - there are not (all are grounded). The other VU+ had the same effect (btw they are connected to cable). I disconnected the cable plug... same issue. Either this is a very curios coincidence or there is something happening which I do not understand - and I have to deal with EMC stuff in work from time to time.
So if there is anybody out there who experienced anything similar, feel free to share your thoughts. I'm not giving away my cable receiver. What I don't yet understand, why do the LEDs still listen to the minimum luminosity but not to the video signal. They are still controlled by the DS4k.
