I currently have a Panasonic Plasma that is HD only. Since there is limited content of 4K i am planning on holding off on buying a new TV for another couple years. With that being said I have a few questions that I am hoping someone can answer. I am running a Denon AVR-X7200WA receiver to control all of my devices.
Is there any benenifit in purchasing the 4K model since my TV cannot receive this content? Other than future proofing I don't see any reason unless the quality will still be better. Any feedback on this is appreciated.
My receiver is HDMI 2.2 compatible and can upscale audio/video; would this also be a reason to purchase the 4K unit? With that being said; are there any known issues with the dreamscreen and up-scaling?
How do you connect this to a receiver? I have read a lot of people having issues with this and if I cannot connect this to my receiver then this is a total deal breaker.
Thanks and cheers!

not much I vaguely remember there are a few little things (ARC?) that only the 4k hardware can do BUT only DS engineers could clarify if they want
if your TV is HD only I dont see how upscaling would make sense
see the DS manual and setup video's on the website
you can connect put the DS between players and AVR or between AVR and TV or the a 2nd HDMI out of the AVR depends on whether you want to use DS app to switch inputs or the AVR remote

Ral,
Thanks for your feedback. Most of what your said made total sense and that’s what I was thinking as well. If anyone else can chime in and confirm what Ral said it would be greatly appreciated.

I have read that there was an issue with upscaling on certain (brands of?) receivers in combination with the Dreamscreen, but DS are aware of that, and are working on a fix, so even if your receiver is in that list, this should be fixed by the time you receive your unit (sorry, I don't remember exactly what brand(s) this was about, and I can't find that specific thread right now).

Hi, I would advise to really think hard and decide on what you want. As said above, there is really no point, no improvement in quality of the effect by using 4k DS on an HDTV as far as I know. So if you are set on waiting with the purchase of a new TV, I would buy a regural HD DS. That being said, I was in a simillar situation last year october-ish, I was planning to get a new TV sometimes in late 2018. That is not a long time so I went ahead and pre-ordered a 4k DS. In January I was just checking prices and found an amazing deal on a 4k OLED TV, so in the end I jave the TV before my DS kit. I am definetely glad I got the future-proofed model now, if only it arrived already :-)
In your place, I would still buy the 4k model, unless you'll want to hassle with upgrading/reselling later.

well - plans on when you plan to go 4k usually in consumer electronics it doesnt make sense to buy much earlier than needed there's always next years model coming up and prices coming down plus most most vendors abandon their "old" models in terms of updates once the new model is out
if you dont plan on getting a 4k TV and have 4k content within the next half year to year I would go with HD now in a year there might be a new model or hardware rev from DS or a competitor available
since you can keep the LEDs all you really need to change is the DS unit itself when you want to upgrade

Thank you all for your opinions. I decided to just go with the HD model for the time. My Panasonic Plasma was the flagship of its day and still looks good so in another couple years 4K could be on the way out. I should have it this weekend so I’m excited to see how it works out.
