The 4K version will support 3D and 24hz Blu-Ray. As for reward combinations that aren't explicitly stated, I will make a new thread about that right now.

Am I right in thinking I have to pay another $200+ (I live in uk) for a upgrade on something I only purchased last month!! To allow 4K so all in all it will cost me over $400. Is this right? Surely when purchasing last month more info on this would of been available. I am very disappointed with this if it is the case.

from what I see $140 is price of the 4k upgrade kit - but I guess you figure in shipping and customs/tax
maybe the DS team can offer some kind of a trade-in for those who bought within the last few weeks

We're waiting since months for a firmware upgrade to fix the 3d problem. Any news about that? I asked on the kickstarter page about enhancements and fixes for the "old" DS - here is the answer: We have finalized a firmware update for the old stick but this is specific to enabling 3D EDID and fixing a bug associated with custom sizes. The older unit has a processor with limited bandwidth for some of the functions implemented in the new DreamScreen.

agree with above comments about an upgrade kit when many users were led to believe the potential for the original DS was out there. Never seen one firmware or ios app update that enhanced the features/usability of the DS. When so many suggestions are in place and so many unanswered responses, its hard to back a product again for 400$ north of the border. at 200$ for a unit upgrade, ill sit with this one for a few more years now till it becomes mainstream or gets all the suggestions in order as many others have, like the optimizations from hue that have progressed rapidly. if there is a lower repeat customer price , it could be attainable, because i have been through enough appletv devices to know the technology progression.

Sorry, im a bit confused. What the hack is the different of DreamscreenHD 3D and Dreamscreen4K Full3D?
i only know about 3D Blurays but i never saw and heared Full 3D BluRays.
i want to upagrade my Dreamscreen and i only own HD Sources (PS3, PS4, WiiU, Switch, X360 BOX, MediaCenter, and BluRay Player) but i watch 3D BluRays very often and 3D Movie via MediaCenter. is the DreamscreenHD enough for me? can i watch my 3D Movies?
and another question, will this now work with the Light and 3d movie? my old version didnt work well with HOU and TAB 3D files

In terms of 3D support, there is no relevant difference between the 4K and HD versions. The 3D format used on Blu-Rays is always 1080p (=Full HD). In theory, the DreamScreen 4K could support 3D in much larger resolutions... such as 4K 3D, but such formats do not currently exist, and it is unlikely (given the lack of popularity of 3D Blu Rays) that this will ever be created.
If you only own/use HD sources, so if all your devices are HDMI 1.4/HDCP 1.4 (or lower) compliant, then yes, the DreamScreen HD will do just fine... also for 3D blu rays. I cannot guarantee it will work with 3D files played from harddisk or on your MediaCenter... that depends on a number of things (such as the EDID signal that your MediaCenter sends on its HDMI output port, and if your TV allows you to select the 3D format for the file that you want to play). If your MediaCenter sends a standard 1080p/24 (non-3D) signal and EDID when you're playing files, and you can then (on your TV) choose to interpret that signal as one of the various 3D formats (SBS, HOU, etc), then it should work... in theory.
The classic DreamScreen has a problem with the EDID signal for 3D (we're still waiting for a firmware fix for that; see also the last post from ral67 above), so yeah, 3D never really worked for that one. Apparently that problem has been fixed in the new HD and 4K versions.
[edit] of all the devices you mention, the PS4 is the only one that could benefit from a DreamScreen 4K: Apparently the PS4 has a HDMI port that is (at least partly) HDMI 2.0 compatible... it is able to support HDR formats. But for HDR, you will need a DreamScreen 4K. Even more so if you own a PS4 Pro (which has full HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 support).

Rickb,
We are only accepting pre-orders through our official website since the KickStarter and IndieGoGo campaigns have ended. There is not an upgrade option posted there at this time, but we will post it in the near future, along with some other updates to our website. Thank you for your patience.
