- Q: "If I get a 4K hub upgrade, will it support 3D BluRay (MVC) Playback?"
Ben (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Just to confirm, the 4K Dreamscreen will support HDR passthrough correct?"
- A: "4K Dreamscreen will support HDR."
splogue (from KS Comments)
- Q: "HDMI 2.0a can handle 18gbs bandwidth, which allows for 4K, HDR, WCG (wide color gamut), and greater bit depth. HDMI 2.0 can handle 10.2gbs bandwidth, which allows basic 4K. I believe from the past statements that the 4K DreamScreen hub can handle HDMI 2.0a, with 18gbs bandwidth. Is this a correct statement?"
- A: "DreamScreen 4K supports 4K at 60Hz and HDR." "On the 4K, the components support TMDS per channel of 6GBit/s allowing for total throughput of 18GBit/s. This is actually a requirement from HDMI 2.0. DreamScreen 4K supports HDMI 2.0b that includes support for HDR video as well."
WarriorSan (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Will it [DS4K] support HDR with dynamic metadata like Dolby Vision and the new HDR10+?"
- A: "We have tested 4K for 12-bit Deep Full HD, Full 3D and HDR. However, we have not tested with Dynamic MetaData. I will need some time to refer to AE engineer from the chipset manufacturer to get that exact detail."
Various folks have asked (from KS Comments)
- Q: Will DreamScreen 4K support Philips Hue? Will DreamScreen support my Amazon Alexa or my other smart home features?
- A: "We are going to start work on bringing Philips Hue and LifX lamps to the ecosystem as well. We have it on our roadmap to release this functionality by November, 2017. We will also implement Amazon Alexa and IFTTT support as well at this time."
Various folks have asked (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Will DreamScreen 4K support older 1080p HD content?"
- A: "DreamScreen 4K supports all HD Content. DreamScreen 4K is HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 and supports HDR. It will fully support all specifications and requirements of HDMI 1.4 including 3D content. This means that if you get a 4K version of the product, you can use with all HD content. Also if you have a 4K TV, you can hook both HD and 4K sources into the inputs (DreamScreen hubs have three HDMI inputs) simultaneously. This means that when you switch between a 1080P source (example ChromeCast V1) to a 4K source (example ChromeCast UHD) the resolution will automatically switch to 4K and vice versa."
Blair (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Looks awesome!! Can one use the 4k version on an HD TV?"
- A: "You can use the 4K version on a HD TV."
Steve (from KS Comments)
- Q: "The only problem I had with the original is: Please make the power cable longer!"
- A: "The Power supply for the Hub comes with an AC cord that is 4 feet in length and the DC cord that is 6 feet in length. We have also moved to a more common 5.5mm adapter " [Extensions can even be added]
Robert (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Are the Corner pieces and the Conector cable included in the Flex Led kit? or do i have to order them separately?"
- A: "All required pieces are included in Flex Kit. No need to order anything else."
Steve (from the KS Comments)
- Q: "Will we be able to purchase a reel and the 4 corner connections separately via your website if I ever upgrade the TV?"
- A: "We will have the Flex Connector and corners available as Accessories on our store. Other accessories are DIY cable, 3.5mm audio cable, Power extension cable (5mm barrel). We also have LED extension cable on our list, but it is not yet tooled."
Charlie (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Will the various IP commands be made available for integration with universal remotes and/or home automation, or are we still expected to use our phones for control? (I maintain that omission of IR input for basic control is a significant shortcoming on home theater equipment.)"
- A: "All IP Commands will be published. We are using standard UDP and TCP commands for all processes. The data will be made available on the forum. The IR part of it is not forgotten. It is very easy for us to have add-ons because of the USB OTG port on hub and Wifi architecture. We have a few accessories on the roadmap."
Various folks have asked (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Can the 4K version of the DreamScreen power on/off with my TV. (CEC)"
- A: "As we discussed in campaign we also have CEC option now to turn off your DS lights when TV goes off (if your TV has CEC capability). For a more ubiquitous route, we have provided a new technique - each Dreamscreen hub has a USB port. You can use a off-the-shelf micro USB cable to connect that to your TV. DreamScreen does not draw power from it, but when enabled in app (disabled by default), the lights ON/OFF will sync to the TV power. "
Dion de Boer (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Will this DreamScreen work once you play, for instance, the Netflix app on a SmartTV? The current one doesn't, and I really hope this one will."
- A: "Unfortunately, a smart TV does not have a mechanism (that we know off) to send out video signals via any electronic format. As a result, this and the previous DreamScreen have been unable to work with apps built into TV."
Edwin (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Can we please please PLEASE have the Windows (10) app this time?"
- A: "In the last project, we looked for a convenient way to port either our Android or iPhone App to support Windows. However, with shuttering of Project Astoria by Microsoft, we do not see easy options for this. We are once again faced with the same engineering resource allocation problem of creating the Windows Application from scratch because we expect very few downloads and the associated learning curve for our App Dev Engineers. We sincerely thank you for the message and we will continue to work other methods to control DreamScreen products without Android or iOS apps."
"We will have a PC based solution in future. We have the framework in DreamScreen hubs to get LED data from the network from video grabbers driving on a PC. We will also implement controls from PC along with it."
Jason T (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Does the new wifi app work with my current 1st gen dreamscreen?"
- A: "The new app will only work with new Wifi based products. We had to take this route to allow for grouping and inter-device communication. We will not bring the old BLE device to the new app."
Pyro
- Q: "With the change over to Wi-fi connectivity for the new hardware, is Bluetooth being totally phased out or is there still a Bluetooth radio installed in the new units?"
- A: "The new hardware will only be wifi. However we are exploring a wifi/bluetooth solution for other hardware later this year.
Sean (from KS Comments)
- Q: "I did find out that the WiFi is b/g/n 2.4GHz and there is no AC 5GHz included. I'm kinda disappointed that the highest wireless standards aren't being used. Also there is no info at all on any Bluetooth in this version, so is it not included because it's WiFi now? If that's the case I'd hope the best WiFi would be available on it"
- A: "DreamScreen does not have BLE 5.0. It has Wifi 802.11g chipset in it. 802.11g is very good and robust for the size and speed of packets we need (60Hz communication with SideKicks). While 802.11n is ubiquituous, there are some range and power advantages to the 802.11g network - especially when you are not transferring large video files."
Jeremy (from KS Comments)
- Q: "Has the new DS been tested with both the Xbox One S (4K UHD playback and HDR) and the PS4 Pro (4Kish gaming)??"
- A: "We have not tested with Xbox One S. We have tested it with PS4 Pro so far and the PS does allow us to force output. The DS 4K supports HDR and 60Hz content. "
dmkickstart247 (from KS Comments)
- Q: "One area I'm nervous about is the HDMI switch, as I still have ongoing issues with my V1 Dreamscreen switch ... In my setup I have approx. 5 HDMI devices into a AV Reciever, and this AV receiver goes into the Dreamscreen splitter (to my TV). Will this arrangement work with the new 4K?"
- A: "DreamScreen 4K and HD hub will support upstream receivers and switches. We caught this issue early on in our beta testing and we have implemented hardware to allow HDCP transfer."
Minsc&boo (from KS Comments)
- Q: "I would like to know if the DreamScreen 4K will accept ... 16:10 (2560x1600) resolutions to a PC monitor."
- A: "We do not support 16:10 formats at the moment. Our EDID will only allow for 16:9 formats. We will need a lot more testing and firmware changes to be done before we can start working on 16:10 format."
Robbie
- Q: "Does the new HD & 4K unit support HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel)?"
- A: "ARC functionality is not supported by the Hub." (No. From the main campaign page)
Pyro
- Q: "Why does the new DreamScreen 4K Android Application ask/have a permission for my network location?"
- A: "During initial setup, the DreamScreens and SideKicks have the ability to create their own access points (wifi networks). The Android app scans all available wifi networks, looking for any of these access points. To use the wifi-scanning api call, a coarse-location permission is required because it may be possible to determine the current location of the device based upon what wifi networks are currently available. Specifically the app is only utilizing the name and the frequency (2.4 or 5 ghz) of the networks from the scan results, and nothing is ever stored on the app. This location permission as well as having the accompanying Location Services enabled is only required for initial setup, and both can be disabled afterwards if wished."
